[ There's a bit of a lull between Gray's question and Eustace's answer, filled with the faint presence of too many emotions. Regret, unhappiness, disappointment. But it's a valid question for her to ask and there's no reason for him to withhold the answer, not when she'll find out one way or another. ]

[ He can't really fault them for being happy with their mission when he hadn't either. But as much as he likes and trusts Gray, he doesn't exactly want to land her in trouble by stirring up anti-Regent sentiment. ]
