(click to expand) BACKGROUNDGray grew up in a tiny, remote village on a mountain in Wales that was also host to a prominent cemetery. At about the age of 5, her face reconstructed itself overnight to resemble the face of an old, famous hero. The searing pain and terror of the transformation scarred her deeply -- but the villagers rejoiced, calling it a great blessing. From then on, they began to worship her, treating her with great respect and reverence. In truth, Gray's hometown has been devoted to a single mission for over a thousand years: the rebirth of King Arthur in mind, body, and soul. Gray was born resembling Arthur only slightly, but an event elsewhere in the world "snapped" her face into full resemblance. It marked her body as the vessel for the Once and Future King's coming revival. For ten years the villagers treasured her for it, and giving up on her future, Gray was prepared for her mind and soul to be cut away to make room for King Arthur's. Soon after her face changed, she was selected by Bersac Blackmore, the cemetery's gravekeeper, to become his successor. Her extreme sensitivity to spirits suited her to the role; though she found ghosts terrifying because she was easily influenced and overwhelmed by their negative emotions, her ability to detect them was essential. She endured severe training to gain the ability to fight, especially with the aid of Add, a Mystic Code (a.k.a. magical tool) capable of transforming into multiple weapons. She devoted herself to her gravekeeping work in order to avoid the worship of the other villagers. Alienated both physically and spiritually, she lived her life day by day engulfed in the closeness of death. One day, a rare pair of strangers showed up at her village. Soon after, "her" corpse was discovered and she was smuggled away to London. There she became an apprentice to Lord El-Melloi II, one of the Twelve Lords of the Clock Tower, the headquarters of the Mage's Association. PERSONALITYGray is small, timid, and often anxious. She's sensitive to the things around her, whether they be people, a busy environment, or a spiritually charged spot, and she can sometimes become overwhelmed to the point of debilitation. The frustrating nature of her fight to acclimate to the world around her paired with the lack of self-worth she fostered in her home village makes for one self-deprecating girl, and she criticizes herself harshly for her shortcomings. But she manages to still be a sweet and caring girl without a malicious bone in her body. She's scared of many things and anxious about meeting new people, but in the end she reaches out anyway, yearning for connection. She has a difficult time acting on her own behalf, tending to keep to the background so she can watch how others act first, and that's made her very observant and insightful about the people around her. She chides herself for being dumb and failing to understand people, but in the end she often mananges to have a good view of them whether she realizes it or not. She does a poor job of acting for her own good (she's working on it) but she excels at being mindful of other people. She enjoys taking care of the people close to her and will take up arms at any time to protect them from danger. She is in fact noted to be the most aggressive of all in an escalating situation; when it comes to a fight, she's full of grit and vigor, embodying a serious old-fashioned warrior's spirit and treating every encounter like it's a matter of life and death. Her time as a gravekeeper has colored her values. While she thinks very little of the line between life and death, she heavily fears ghosts because she's easily possessed by their negative emotions. She exterminates ghosts as she knows them with extreme prejudice. She's "the best gravekeeper in Britain," and her skills reflect that, but it also means that the time she's spent watching over graves has left her with very little time to socialize with living people. Even so, she does her best in what little ways she can, trying to eke out her worth to other people. Gray is prone to macabre, depressed, and self-flagellating thoughts, though she more often than not contains them. It's an ongoing struggle for her to find worth in herself and become more "selfish" and self-interested. As such, she often admires people who are bold and confident even if they aren't actually good people. Her morality is somewhat (wait for it) gray in that regard; she chooses to obey laws and kindness as much as she can, but she has a high tolerance for people with bad personalities because she can more often than not see the choice traits in them that she wishes she could have for herself.
